Opinion on "Dick Gabriel on Lisp"
Just as a quick comment before starting talking about the podcast i really enjoyed the song that was played at the end of the podcast i may not be a fan of Lisp at the moment because Clojure is a new language to me and a whole new form of programming, as Lisp is a functional language, and i have always worked with Object Oriented languages like C++ or Java but the song in some way makes you like Lisp a little bit more as it says "God wrote in Lisp" i find it very funny as everywhere i look they tell us Lisp is a very powerful language.
Addressing the podcast the first thing that really sparked my interest is the important role Lisp has played in artificial intelligence because i didn't knew that it was the main language used to research and develop in this area and i think is an area that really needs to keep developing even though as today it is the center of many discussions and debates as we can see an example with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.
Also i really liked the explanation he gives us of how Lisp works because even though we are learning in class how Clojure works and what it can do the brief summary he gives us at the beginning of the podcast helped me a little bit more in understanding the concepts we are working with at the moment.
Finally, the way he talks about how he later studied poetry and how he thinks that programming should be taught as art is, that is something that i have always thought of as a music lover because although i don't think we should focus solely on that form of teaching it is something that would help a lot if we added it to the way we learn programming because we are not just following a guide and developing something thanks to that, we are thinkers, we are designers, and i really think we need to be creative in order to be a better programmers so i really stand besides him in this statement he makes.
