Opinion on "Dick Gabriel on Lisp"

Just as a quick comment before starting talking about the podcast i really enjoyed the song that was played at the end of the podcast i may not be a fan of Lisp at the moment because Clojure is a new language to me and a whole new form of programming, as Lisp is a functional language, and i have always worked with Object Oriented languages like C++ or Java but the song in some way makes you like Lisp a little bit more as it says "God wrote in Lisp" i find it very funny as everywhere i look they tell us Lisp is a very powerful language. Addressing the podcast the first thing that really sparked my interest is the important role Lisp has played in artificial intelligence because i didn't knew that it was the main language used to research and develop in this area and i think is an area that really needs to keep developing even though as today it is the center of many discussions and debates as we can see an example with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. Also i really ...

The first thing I want to address is the accurate comment about how learning Lisp can compare to learning Latin, and lets not stay in Latin, because as I don’t speak it I can’t back up if it’s true or not, but let’s compare it to something more within reach of comparison for a lot of us, learning another language, let’s say learning English or German, yes, maybe you won’t use it on a daily basis and maybe you won’t even use it at all in some cases, but when you are learning that language you start to develop a deeper understanding of how some things work related to grammar and communication, it gives you, in some sense, a better understanding of your own language and why it is the way you know it. The same thing happens in this case with Lisp as I understand from the writer, when you learn another language and in this case a powerful language like Lisp that is not that related to the ones we are accustomed with, java, c, c++, python your skills as a programmer develop and you begin ...

The semicolon wars

Entry 27: The parenthesis are closing in on us I fear we wont be able to see the next week, if anyone finds this diary please be sure that we fought with all our strength but the power of the parenthesis was too much. It looks like clojure wasn't a place for us. Sargent Semicolon. Bad jokes aside and addressing the lecture one thing that really interested me about this lecture is that along the way of my discovery of programming and programming languages i have always met with people telling me: "This language is the best one", "You should really drop that language and use this", well, maybe not so directly but that was the idea, and although i really thought this was a more recent problem, because there are so many languages and a lot of them can do the same things just in a different manner, i never realized until now that this occurred since the beginning of programming i knew that there were some programming languages back then but as they were deve...

My name is Daniel Gildardo Guerrero Guzmán, i am 20 years old and currently coursing my seventh semester here at the ITESM. Expectations about the course: I hope my knowledge and skills in programming improve with what we are going to learn in this class, i also hope that my interest in programming increases and although i don't know what are the things we will be learning later in the course, I'm more than happy accepting the red pill. Hobbies?   I usually enjoy spending my free time playing video games and watching TV series, in the case of video games i mainly enjoy Overwatch and WOW by Blizzard and League of Legends by Riot Games. In the case of the series i enjoy watching,   Game of Thrones has to be one of the series i enjoy the most, I'm awaiting the new season of Mr. Robot and I'm a big fan of the series related to heroes like Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Jessica Jones and basically any series related to DC or Marvel because of my love to comic books....
